Riverside Studios – Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival

Project Description

In 2016, Virtual Umbrella assisted in the organisation and running of both the Tech Hub and VR Cinema at the prestigious Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival (EDEF). Running across the entire month of August, and hosted in the majestic Assembly Rooms, the event saw a huge number of attendees and formed an iconic part of the city’s broader festival programme.

In keeping with the programme’s broader aim to ‘generate discussion and education around digital technology, and its use within the arts and entertainment sector’, it was the team’s job throughout to lead members of the public through a range of interactive-technology experiences, including virtual reality, augmented reality, and games. Exhibitors included: BBC R&D, IglooVision, VRTGO, HTC Vive, Sky R&D, and LordMiller Productions.

“I’ve been really impressed by the curation of the digital pieces in the Tech Hub, the VR cinema and the fascinating talks.  It’s a great festival and I hope it continues in years to come”
-Oliver Franklin-Wallis, Journalist at Wired

“Just an amazing experience […] like nothing I’ve experienced before”
-Jack Snelling, Premier South Australia, Minister for the Arts
